- Emerging areas of interdisciplinary research utilize the field of design in solving global challenges in the fields of medicine, health care, energy, sustainability and education; these, in addition to more traditional design areas of rural, urban and cultural landscapes; building design and construction; interiors; and historic preservation.

- The B.S. degree program in Digital Media Design offers students an intensive digital media curriculum at a pre-professional level. This degree is available to students who plan to undertake careers in practical and commercial applications of digital design and related technologies involved in the creation and use of digital imagery.
- Computer engineers design computer systems, both hardware and software, to create new technologies and meet the ever-changing needs of society. The field of computer engineering covers a wide range of topics including computer architecture, operating systems, communications, computer networks, robotics, artificial intelligence, supercomputers, computer-aided design and neural nets.
- Biomedical engineering is a multidisciplinary field that applies engineering principles and design methods to improve the interaction and integration of engineering with medicine and biological sciences for improving human health and solving healthcare challenges.
- Biosystems engineering integrates aspects of traditional engineering fields like mechanical, chemical and civil engineering with biological sciences, and focuses on agricultural and environmental applications.
